Never Alone

By Karen

We're never alone, even when we want to be.
Hearts always locked together, not needing the key.

Twisting and turning, inside each other's lives.
Always aware of the other one's cries.

Even as children there was something there.
I knew I wasn't alone. Somebody cared.

Elusive as the unicorn, hidden from our sight.
My mind always knew there was someone in the night.

Myths and legends misted through our dreams.
Dragons and monsters and other such things.

Yet even before we knew of one another.
We were never alone. Deep down I had a brother.

Brought together one day by god's command.
Facing our foes shoulder to shoulder we stand.

Testing of our love, we had to go through.
We came out on top, as we always knew.

Two spirits, once undone.
Their life's blood unified and combined; joined as one.

Two breaths not needed. Only one set of eyes.
Two hearts conjoined, never telling lies.

I don't understand the metamorphosis that has come to be.
My heart beating for his and his heart beating for me.

Churning and burning of every pain.
Chasing away storms, chasing away rain.

Two spirits meeting, after years of the unknown.
Together forever. Life's mystery being sown.

Two humans on this spinning blue ball.
Understanding the power of love, never letting the other fall.

For upon this battlefield, we are placed.
Some alone, some losing the race.

These two, here, have found the light.
Never alone, try as they might.

The universe wraps around them, like the wings of a dove.
Keeping them connected, cradled in love.

Never alone, even when they were apart.
Two bodies, two souls, one life-beating heart.
